Haeri Choi invites you to a lounge where antiquity and fantasy coexist!
In the exhibition, Choi made a space where her reinterpretations of old paintings are juxtaposed with originasl artworks. This is to see the works in traditional methodology of art through a chain of paintings, objects and videos reflecting Choi's fantasy. You will be able to find different links between traditional and modern in the artist's conversation with a curator, followed by her own guided tour of the works.

Haeri Choi, Our ICONS are moving through the backflow of time into the Chinoiserie style stains of Lang Shining, who called Jusepe Castiligione. (detail), 2016Haeri Choi, Cosmin Sage with the Greenish and the Tails, 2016
In her work, Haeri Choi captures the point where the past and present resonate or collide. She adds elements of fantasy to traditional painting subjects, such as the “four gracious plants” and “flower-and-bird,” to create scenes that appear familiar yet somewhat strange. Choi’s ink paintings that reinterpret the East Asian painting tradition are juxtaposed with her copy of past masters and works culled from the museum’s traditional art collection, thereby placing traditional painting into a new context. Displayed alongside the paintings is a video work based on a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm intermixed and reconstituted. The fragmented nature of the video is similar to the paintings that Choi created by borrowing certain elements from traditional painting and re-interpreting them.
